This season’s concert marks the first appearance by AXIS on the
Rhinebeck Chamber Music Society‘s regular concert series. This
ensemble is dedicated to bringing new life and new performance of an
often neglected segment of the chamber music repertoire. Based in
New York City, AXIS has performed throughout the Tri-State
metropolitan area. Recently they have presented concerts at Iona
College, the City Museum of New York and the Keeler Tavern Museum.
Jorge Caballero is one of the most prominent guitarists of his
generation. As a 19-year old, he received the prestigious Naumburg
Prize in 1996., making him the youngest musician to be awarded top
honors in Naumburg Foundation history.
Maria Conti, first violin, is an active freelance musician and has
performed in the major venues of New York City. She has toured
Venezuela with the Manhattan Symphony Orchestra and is Assistant
Concertmaster of the Norwalk and Greater Bridgeport Symphonies.
Krzysztof Kuznik, second violin, made his solo debut at Symphony
Space in a performance praised by the Strad magazine as an "... honest
and musical account of the Bruch Concerto in G minor.” He has
performed with the New York Philharmonic on their Latin American,
Asian and East Asian tours.
Samuel Marchan, viola, a native of Venezuela has established himself
as an outstanding performer and teacher. He is part of the Artist
Faculty at the Walnut Hill/Sphinx Academy in Boston.
Jameson Platte, cello, maintains an active career both as a performer and a teacher. He is currently principal cellist of the Glens Falls Symphony, assistant principal of the Allentown Symphony and a section cellist with the Albany Symphony. Mr. Platte works extensively with the New Jersey Youth Symphony as a guest conductor and cello coach, performs as a soloist and maintains a large private studio. He recently made his New York City recital debut and was featured in a contemporary music concert at Merkin recital hall to warm reviews. Mr. Platte is Faculty at New England Music Camp. Mr. Platte plays on a 1925 Hannibal Fagnola cello as well as bows by Bernard Ouchard, Charles Bazin, Johannes Finkel, and John Dodd.
